What’s involved with horsemanship at SWF?
Every student starts the SWF program with the
“Introduction to Horses Series” which is several unmounted interactive group
lessons where they learn the innate language of the horse and how to interact
respectfully with the horse before they ride. In these lessons students will
also learn to care for the equipment and stable area. The student then moves to
several mounted private lessons. Either to evaluate previous riding ability (one
lesson) or until a student develops adequate control of a horse for group riding
(approx. 3 to 6 lessons). Parents are encouraged
to attend the first few lessons of the Intro Series.
How to schedule a lesson?
Regular weekly lessons are scheduled on a
monthly basis during the last week of each month (A notice will be posted by
payment box each month).
Single lesson times are scheduled on a case by
case basis at each lesson.
Dates & times for lessons must be
discussed with instructor either before or after lesson or by calling the farm.
What
is needed at the first lesson?
A
signed SWF release/registration form with the annual registration fee and lesson
payment for first lessons or month of lessons.
What
should a student wear?
Approved
riding helmets are mandatory however bicycle helmets may be used for the first
lessons. Breeches boots and gloves are preferred but if the student doesn’t
have riding attire then comfortable stretch pants and study footwear with half
inch heels are permitted. No jeans, high heels or sneakers!
Arrival
& Departure Times
Arrival Time: All procedures necessary to
prepare for lessons are accounted for in our schedule, riders do not need to arrive early but the preparation time as
well as cool down and clean up time is important to our program and must be preformed by the student. SWF programs do not support unauthorized assistance from parents or
friends.
Departure Time: Normal departure time will be 1 1/2 to 2
hours later, however always
check with Instructor each visit, before
leaving the farm, for more exact times (the schedule can
fluctuate).
Cancellation or Late Procedures
SWF tries to accommodate clients (with prior notice) whenever possible.
· If a student arrives too late (missing preparation time) for
a lesson that student must
forfeit lesson and will be charged.
· For safety reasons a instructor will not
leave group lessons to put horses
away early for students that can not stay due to other commitments.
· Sufficient notice of cancellation for lessons is; 2:00 pm for afternoon and
evening lessons and 5:00 pm the day before a morning lesson.
· If SWF receives sufficient notice (no messages from other students) then a
student may make up the lesson, only within the month it was scheduled and if
space allows.
· It is the responsibility of the student to schedule make up lessons or
missed lesson will be forfeited without credit.
· If SWF doesn’t receive
sufficient lesson cancellation, the
student will be charged for the lesson and no make ups will be applied.
· If a student repeatedly cancels a scheduled lesson (3 times in a row) that
time will be reassigned.
